The artist’s name is Samuel Jernigan, he is a graduate student. He graduated in the Fall of 2015 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics. Jernigan’s work is quite intricate, he makes sculptures out of ceramics and spray paint. Jernigan has been working with ceramics since 2000, he worked as a production artist. He also often spends a long amount of time working on each piece. He’s spent 14 to 16 hours a day working a day marking art in the studio so he ended up renting it as a place to stay. Also, his favorite donut is chocolate with nuts.

Samuel Jernigan’s ceramic art is your standard made ceramics. They are composed of the same materials. Jernigan uses spray paint to paint the pieces. He says he prefers spray paint because “it doesn’t run.” Most pieces of his are unnamed and Jernigan said, ” if it makes me laugh, it’s cool with me.” The ceramics are smooth and molded nicely made on a larger scale than usual.

Samuel Jernigan’s ceramic art is very intricate, not only is it made into specific shapes, it is, for some, interchangeable. I myself was not sure what he meant, but he could easily swap a bust’s head piece with another one considering that the mount for it was similar. “Each piece of  [it] are autonomous and move in their own direction.” Jernigan says that his inspiration came from toys that made him confused about what they were, so in this case, he wanted to display a sure look at what you are comprehending and seeing (if that makes sense).

Overall, I really enjoyed Samuel Jernigan’s work, his art pieces are great and very warming. The colors that he uses set nicely and give a more vibrant look. Think of it this way, what if you saw a bright white porcelain bust, but then saw what Jernigan made, a more milky brown ceramic piece. It’s very nice some could be changed with a different piece. You could change it to how you felt today, or what you wanted to showcase to your guests. Either way, I would love to have one in my house.

P.S Excuse my photo but Samuel said that he's not very photogenic and would prefer if we took one while talking with all of us.
